Protesters have once again disrupted RTÉ’s current affairs show Upfront with Katie Hannon while live on air.

Protesters invaded the set on Monday night, holding up signs and chanting slogans before the show cut its live broadcast so that security could deal with the situation.

A man and a woman approached the bench at the front of the set near where Katie and the guests were sitting and began their short protest before the footage could be pulled.

Their message was not clearly audible in the footage.

The programme continued after a short interruption.

Upfront with Katie Hannon sees the presenter joined by guests and members of the public to discuss current affairs issues live each Monday night.

Recently an episode featuring a discussion on violence against women and the live broadcast of the discussion was interrupted by two protesters, with a man being heard saying “we’d also like to talk about the women in Gaza.”

The man was quickly taken away by security, however with seemingly just one member of security present, a woman was able to stand in front of the live audience holding a banner for around 20 seconds before she was taken away.

Cameras had cut away from the woman and sound was cut during the interruption. Both protesters also held Palestinian flags, however the banners they held couldn’t be read because of the camera angle change.

“I think we can all agree that every woman in the world needs to be protected, that is for sure,” Ms Hannon said as sound was restored to the broadcast.
