Falling numbers drive mart prices up across the board

With numbers continuing to fall at many marts across the country, there was further bite in the trade last week, as prices rose in all categories.

Brendan Egan of Castlerea spoke of a “pre-Christmas bounce” with his heifers up by €20-30/hd, while “you won’t get too big of a bullock under €1,500. Maybe 470-480kg”. He reckons there are “two weeks left in it” before numbers dwindle entirely.
