Ireland’s Fittest Family presenter and 2FM DJ Laura Fox is the latest celebrity to be confirmed for the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

The Galway native will put the ‘Fox’ in the foxtrot as she takes on the gruelling rehearsals and live shows in the hope of lifting the coveted Glitterball in March 2024.

She may have a slight advantage over the others as she is pals with two previous winners, Lottie Ryan and Carl Mullan, but after just three rehearsals she admitted this week that she “in bits”.

She said: “I was actually only asked at the last minute as I heard someone else couldn’t do it.

“I didn’t even ask who it was or why they couldn’t take part, I just said ‘yes’. I probably should have played it cool and played hard to get but the producers know I’ve wanted to do this show for years. It’s a dream come true. Genuinely.”

So what experience does the 33-year-old have on the dancefloor?

“Well, I haven’t done any sort of choreographed dance routine in 17 years since I was in stage school. I actually did Aladdin one year and my mam took me aside after the show where I had been singing and she just said ‘maybe you should stick to the dancing’, so my life has now gone full circle.

“I’m not naturally good at dancing. My go-to move is some sort of cringy wiggle. I am actually more concerned about those few seconds at the end of each show where the dancers have to kind of ad lib the dancing as the credits roll.

“That is my worst nightmare. Not the 90 seconds of intense choreography. I tend to be the last one onto the dancefloor if I am out with the girls because I am always yapping. So I honestly don’t know how I am going to get on here.

Eileen Dunne

“I am already really struggling in rehearsals. I am a fan of the gym but it means nothing here where I have to do five hours of rehearsals. It is a massive challenge. But I can’t complain now. I have wanted this for so long.”

Five other celebrities were announced on Friday’s Late Late Show. They are former Miss World Rosanna Davison, Wild Youth’s Dave Whelan, retired newsreader Eileen Dunne, TikTok sensation Miriam Mullins and drag queen Blu Hydrangea.

The series is due to begin in January and run for 11 weeks.
