Get Smart – that’s what motor distributors will be saying to Irish buyers looking for a small new “premium” car.

Motor Distributors Ltd (MDL) has been appointed as distributor for Ireland for the range of Smart cars.

Initially, there will be two models and they will be on sale from early next year. The models are Smart #1 and Smart #3. The latter made its European debut in September at the IAA auto exhibition in Munich.

The appointment of MDL means the brand re-enters the market here after many years’ absence.

The MDL appointment is part of a Europe-wide Smart expansion plan aimed at establishing up to 300 sales outlets across 17 European markets. It means MDL will have a major range to distribute – from small passenger cars and vans to heavy commercial vehicles.

Appointed sales outlets will be announced shortly, allowing time for viewing for the 2024 reg plate.
