A Fair City star who previously featured in popular shows such as Kin and Vikings:Valhalla is the latest addition to this year’s Dancing with the Stars line-up.

Dubliner Shane Quigley Murphy is an actor best known for his role as Gareth Boyle in Fair City.

He said he is “absolutely delighted” to be a part of this season of Dancing with the Stars.

“It’s such an honour to be part of such an incredible production and the entire team have been so brilliant and welcoming, preparing me for what’s to come,” the 6′3″ actor said.

Beyond Carrigstown, Shane has appeared in several television series such as Patrick in the drama series Outlander and Thespin Pilot Obsidian in the Apple TV+ series, Foundation.

He also played Dean Fearon in the first season of the RTÉ television crime drama Kin and in 2022, he starred as Aelfrun in the Netflix series, Vikings: Valhalla.

On the upcoming preparations, he said: “The spray tan caught me by surprise, but hey I’ll try anything once! I’m not quite sure what to expect, but that’s why I love it.”

The 32-year-old is also an experienced stage actor, performing in productions from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to Shakespeare's Rose Theatre.

He is the seventh celebrity dancer to be announced to the show, which will be hosted by Doireann Garrihy and Jennifer Zamparelli.

On Friday night’s Late Late Show, former Miss World and mother-of-three Rosanna Davison was announced as one of the first participants.

Also announced was retired RTÉ newsreader Eileen Dunne, Wild Youth singer David Whelan, drag queen superstar Blu Hydrangea, and TikTok sensation Miriam Mullins.

The six were revealed by Patrick Kielty as the first of the 11 hopefuls vying for the glitterball trophy in early 2024.

2FM and Ireland's Fittest Family presenter Laura Fox was announced on Sunday. Four more names, to complete this year’s complement of 11 contestants, will be revealed this week.

The glitz, glamour, and nail-biting competition will all unfold when the new season returns to RTÉ One and RTÉ Player in January 2024.

“I love a challenge, and this is definitely a challenge for me. The last time I danced was at my brother’s wedding and honestly that wasn’t a pretty sight,” Mr Murphy added.
