Members of An Garda Síochána’s Armed-Support Unit were deployed to Denny Street in the heart of Tralee town early on Monday afternoon.

The national Garda Press Office did not provide further detail on the deployment except to say anti-crime checkpoints are conducted routinely across all Garda divisions.

The scene at Denny Street, Tralee

Several Gardaí, including armed personnel, had been stationed this afternoon at Denny Street, at a location about half-way between Ivy Terrace and the entrance to Park Lane. Gardaí stopped some vehicles and spoke briefly with drivers. Two Garda jeeps were parked on either side of this stop point, with ceiling lights flashing on both vehicles.

“Anti-crime checkpoints are conducted routinely across all Garda Divisions,” a spokesperson said.
