Snow Patrol have announced their only Irish date next year with a stadium show to take place in Limerick next summer.

The Indie rock band will play at Thomond Park Stadium, the home of Munster Rugby in Limerick city, on Friday, July 12, 2024, with tickets to go on sale this Friday morning.

They join Ed Sheeran and Dermot Kennedy, who played at the Limerick stadium in the last two years.

The hugely-popular band released a special re-issue of their 20th anniversary album Final Straw, in August and have hinted at the release of a new album coming next year.

Snow Patrol carved out a hugely successful commercial rock career over the last 29 years, particularly with the release of hit songs Run and Chasing Cars in the early 2000s.

The group’s lead vocalist Gary Lightbody, from Co Down, set up the group in 1994 after moving to Dundee Scotland to study English literature. He is now the sole original member.

The band has racked up an impressive number of critical and commercial accolades, including 15 million global album sales, one billion global track streams, five UK Platinum Albums, and are Grammy, BRIT Award and Mercury Music Prize nominated.

Earlier this year, the band announced that Paul Wilson, the group's bassist, and Jonny Quinn, the drummer, were leaving the band.

Nathan Connolly, who joined in 2002 and plays lead guitar and backing vocals, as well as Johnny McDaid who joined in 2011 and plays rhythm guitar, piano, keyboards and backing vocals form the rest of the band.

At the time, Gary Lightbody said: “While I am sad that we have come to the end of a long, fulfilling and wonderful chapter of Snow Patrol, I also have deep gratitude and excitement to be at the start of a brand new chapter for us.

“I love this band. I love these guys. I love the music we make.”

Snow Patrol will be joined on the night by Limerick-based 3-piece band, Kingfishr, who have quickly established themselves as one of the rising prospects in Irish music.

Bursting onto the scene in the last two years, the band, who have been likened to Mumford and Sons and Dermot Kennedy are part of the newest generation of Irish contemporaries.

The band’s grand, atmospheric tone married with their propensity for catchy melodies has resonated with a wide audience.

All five of their releases this past year have garnered significant Irish radio play, with the group accruing 3.8 million streams on Spotify on the same year they played Electric Picnic, earlier this summer.

Tickets for Snow Patrol at Thomond Park will go on sale this Friday at 9am, costing €53.85 subject to licence.
